Stephane Grappelli (1908-1997) had a long and productive career as one of the greatest of all jazz violinists.
While closely associated with Django Reinhardt in the 1930s (they also had some later reunions in the 1940s), Grappelli had a long solo career after that period, working mostly in France in the 1950s and ‘60s before becoming a world traveler during his final quarter-century.
Grappelli, who was 74 at the time, is featured in 1982 in a quintet with the young guitarist Martin Taylor, swinging with his typical class and grace on a pair of Django Reinhardt songs.
