The Man I Love – 1974

Ella Fitzgerald

The remarkable singer on Holland TV

In 1974, Ella Fitzgerald toured Europe with her quartet which was comprised of guitarist Joe Pass, pianist Tommy Flanagan, bassist Keter Betts, and drummer Bobby Durham.

Her only album that year was Ella In London but among her many engagements was an appearance on Dutch television.

She is featured performing “The Man I Love” in an inventive arrangement that begins with a tender chorus before a strong drum rhythm results in her cooking and wailing at her best.

The piece concludes with the great Ella dueting with drummer Durham and gradually bringing the piece to a quiet conclusion.
