Guy Van Duser has long played his guitar in jazz and folk settings, recording a string of impressive albums for the Rounder label in the 1980s.
John Phillip Sousa’s “The Stars And Stripes Forever” was performed by solo banjoists as early as the late 1890s and pianist Eubie Blake in the 1970s not to mention all types of bands through the years.
Van Duser’s arrangement for solo guitar, which was adopted by Chet Atkins, is one of the most comprehensive of the renditions, including all of the themes normally played by a large band and even the piccolo’s countermelody.
