Chet Baker loved the playing of guitarist Philip Catherine.

Baker and Catherine recorded ten albums together starting in 1983, often in a pianoless trio with bassist Jean-Louis Rassinfosse.

This performance is from 1981, two years before the trio first recorded together.

Chet Baker starts off by scatting quite well, the versatile Catherine takes a tasteful solo, and Baker proves to be in top form on trumpet.

Despite his up-and-down lifestyle, Baker played some of his finest solos during his last decade.
