One of cornetist King Oliver’s most exciting recordings from the second half of the 1920s was 1929’s “Too Late,” a song that surprisingly has not been performed much since by trad and New Orleans jazz groups.

In 1985, the popular Jim Cullum Jazz Band used the number as an encore, coming up with their own spirited version.

The band consists of Cullum on cornet, Randy Reinhart doubling on trombone and cornet, clarinetist Allan Vache, pianist John Sheridan, banjoist Howard Elkins, bassist Jim Hunter, and drummer Eddie Torres, all of whom get a chance to solo.
