At the time of this 1978 performance, Bill Evans had been a very influential pianist for 20 years, in his chord voicings and the way that he interacted closely with his rhythm section.
That influence has only grown during the many years since his 1980 passing.
For this performance, Evans’ trio includes bassist Marc Johnson and veteran drummer Philly Joe Jones (who would soon be succeeded by Joe LaBarbera).
“Turn Out The Stars” is given a more forceful interpretation than usual while “Minha” is quite tender and emotional.
