Herbie Hancock wrote it and made it a classic two times, in his 1962 recording and then again in 1973 on his Headhunters Album.

In 1963, Cuban bandleader Mongo Santamaria was in search of a tune that bridged jazz and Latin music – and along came Herbie.

Santamaria’s version (below) became a Top 10 Pop hit.
