While “When The Saints Go Marching In” was originally a religious song, after Louis Armstrong first recorded it in 1938, it caught on as a Dixieland standard.
Armstrong performed “The Saints” on a nearly nightly basis for decades but never lost his enthusiasm for the song as one can see from this 1959 appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show.
Taken a little faster than usual, he joyfully sings and plays the Dixieland anthem with his All-Stars which include trombonist Trummy Young, clarinetist Peanuts Hucko, pianist Billy Kyle, bassist Mort Herbert, and drummer Danny Barcelona.
