The trio of pianist Keith Jarrett, bassist Gary Peacock, and drummer Jack DeJohnette first came together on Peacock’s 1977 recording Tales Of Another although Jarrett and DeJohnette had previously played together with the Charles Lloyd Quartet and Miles Davis.
The group which became known as The Standards Trio, was officially formed in 1983 and was regularly active until 2002, having a reunion in 2009 and breaking up in 2014.
With the passing of Peacock in 2020 and DeJohnette in 2025, and Jarrett being forced to retire due to two strokes in 2018, the Standards Trio has passed into history.
Fortunately they made many recordings and there is quite a bit of film of the group including this stirring version of “You Don’t Know What Love Is” from 1986.
