Pianist Emmet Cohen’s now-legendary series of filmed podcasts called Emmet’s Place not only gave him an opportunity to interact with veteran jazz greats in a relaxed jam session setting, but it also gave younger up-and-coming players the chance to be featured.

For this performance in 2022, the great singer Cyrille Aimee dispenses with the melody of “You’d Be So Nice To Come Home To” quickly and then engages in some creative and high-powered scat-singing that displays her full range.

Emmet Cohen matches her with an exciting solo of his own, the young trumpeter Wayne Tucker fares well and, with bassist Lex Warshawksy offering solid support, drummer-percussion Pedro Segundo takes a solo mostly with his hands.

Performances such as this one make one optimistic about the future of jazz.
