Guitarists Barney Kessel and Tal Farlow both came up in the 1940s, did some of their most significant recordings in the 1950s, and came together in the 1970s along with Charlie Byrd as the Great Guitars, recording for the Concord label and going on worldwide tours.
Kessel and Farlow were both masters of bebop guitar which is very much in evidence during their uptempo version of “Strike Up The Band.”
With fine support from bassist Joe Byrd and drummer Chuck Redd, Kessel and Farlow inspire each other during their explosive yet seemingly effortless performance.
