Pianists Lewis and Taylor together on a ballad
In 1985, Billy Taylor (1921-2010), a superior pianist and a very articulate spokesman for jazz, hosted a series of half-hour television programs for Bravo called Jazz Counterpoint.
In each episode, Taylor featured a different pianist, interviewing the artist and often playing duets.
John Lewis (1920-2001), the founder of the Modern Jazz Quartet and a veteran of the classic bebop era, is featured with Taylor on a tasteful and swinging version of “Here’s That Rainy Day.”
The complementary styles of Lewis and Taylor fit together perfectly during this memorable performance.
