Carmen McRae (1922-94) was a major jazz singer for nearly 40 years.
Her distinctive voice, behind-the-beat phrasing and wit (which could be sarcastic) made her an important and influential force in the jazz world.
In 1968 she was featured on a television special with the Kenny Clarke-Francy Boland Big Band, one of the top jazz orchestras of the era.
Carmen McRae performs a thoughtful version of “For Once In My Life” which effectively builds up as it evolves, and a brief up-tempo rendition of “I Wish I Were In Love Again.”
