In Oct. 1959, pianist Bud Powell and his Three Bosses (with bassist Pierre Michelot and drummer Kenny Clarke) were filmed performing several numbers at Paris’ Club St. Germain.
On “Miguel’s Party,” the trio is joined by the great flugelhornist Clark Terry and tenor-saxophonist Barney Wilen.
The medium-tempo hard bop blues inspires some typically exuberant playing by Terry, fluent tenor playing from Wilen and some classic bebop piano by Powell, the style’s creator.
