The Garfield High School Jazz Ensemble perform "Chelsea Bridge" at the 2015 Essentially Ellington Competition and Festival.
Though made famous by the Duke Ellington Orchestra, "Chelsea Bridge" was actually composed by Ellington's longtime collaborator Billy Strayhorn in 1941.
Essentially Ellington is an annual program in which fifteen of North America's best high school jazz bands perform for a panel of judges. Occurring in May, the competition includes jam sessions, workshops, an awards ceremony, and a closing performance from the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis.
