Ella Fitzgerald (1917-96), “the first Lady of Song,” first appeared on film in the 1942 Abbott & Costello movie Ride ‘Em Cowboy, singing her big hit “A-Tisket, A-Tasket.”
While she would be a regular on television, there are not many other films of Ella prior to the late 1950s.
Here is the remarkable singer, backed by an unseen big band, swinging her way through “I’m Riding High” on a 1955 episode of the Frankie Laine Show; she is introduced by the host.
