Throughout her career, Ella Fitzgerald had opportunities to collaborate with many different singers.
In 1960 on the Dinah Shore Chevy Show, Ella was heard in a surprisingly effective vocal trio with Andy Williams and Dinah Shore.
At first, the singers on “Goin’ To Chicago” are inspired a little by Lambert, Hendricks and Ross, singing and scatting together with Shore and Williams doing quite well with the always superb Ella.
The music becomes “Alright, OK You Win” with the singers all swinging and influenced by Count Basie.
Then during the final two minutes, Ella is featured on an uptempo version of her “Joe Williams Blues,” singing lyrics taken from Williams’ recordings with Basie, and finally scatting up a storm as only she could.
