Gordon: February 27, 1923 – April 25, 1990
First written and recorded in 1962 by sax player Jimmy for his sixth album, “Gingerbread Boy” would later be covered by many others, including Miles Davis.
At this time Dexter Gordon was laser-focused on producing bop – working with the great Freddie Hubbard and showing off his skills at the Montreux Jazz Festival.
Personnel:
Dexter Gordon, tenor sax
Hampton Hawes, keyboard
Bob Cranshaw, bass
Kenny Clarke, drums
