Throughout his wide-ranging career, Herbie Hancock has played everything from straight ahead jazz to post bop, electronic music, funk, pop, and music that cannot be easily categorized.
But no matter what idiom Hancock is exploring at the moment, he can always switch back to bop on a moment’s notice.
Hancockshows his expertise on an uptempo version of the Miles Davis straight ahead blues “Walkin’” at a Jan. 26, 1983 concert that took place at the Palazzo del Congressie in Lugano, Italy.
Bassist Ron Carter and drummer Billy Cobham also have their chances to share the spotlight on this spirited version.
