In his career, pianist Keith Jarrett has led a trio with bassist Charlie Haden and drummer Paul Motian, headed two different quartets in the 1970s (with either Dewey Redman or Jan Garbarek on tenor), and became famous for his solo concerts.

In 1983 he recorded the album Standards Vol. 1 in a trio with bassist Gary Peacock and drummer Jack DeJohnette.

That group lasted until 2015, going on occasional tours and making many recordings.

Their Tokyo concert of Feb. 15, 1985, which lasts nearly two hours and includes ten songs (“I Wish I Knew,” “If I Should Lose You,” “Late Lament,” “Rider,” “It’s Easy To Remember,” “So Tender,” “Prism,” “Stella By Starlight,” “God Bless The Child” and “Delaunay’s Dilemma”) is here in full.

It holds one’s interest throughout, and the close interplay between the three musicians, along with a repertoire filled with medium-tempo explorations and ballads, shows listeners why this group lasted so long.
