Jack Teagarden was one of the finest jazz trombonists of all time, a pacesetter for over 30 years.
While he led a big band for seven years and was sometimes a sideman (most notably with Louis Armstrong), Teagarden was heard at his best as the leader of a freewheeling band.
This hot version of “Dark Eyes” is from a 1951 Snader television transcription and teams Teagarden with his brother trumpeter Charlie Teagarden, clarinetist Heinie Beau, tenor-saxophonist Pud Brown, pianist Don Ewell, bassist Ray Leatherwood and drummer Ray Bauduc.
