One of the finest groups that flugelhornist Art Farmer ever led was the short-lived quartet that he had after the breakup of the Jazztet.
Farmer and guitarist Jim Hall were a perfect match, both being very lyrical players tied to bebop and cool jazz but also forward-looking, and skilled at making every note count.
This exquisite performance from 1964 (taken from a BBC television show) has Farmer and Hall joined by bassist Steve Swallow and drummer Pete La Roca, performing the beautiful “Petite Belle.”
