December 8, 1928 – February 8, 2005
Written by Bobby Timmons, and first recorded by Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers in '58, “Moanin'” has since become a jazz standard. It's off an album with the same name.
Here Jimmy Smith's brass section takes the solo originally performed by the Jazz Messengers' Lee Morgan.
Personnel:
Jimmy Smith, Hammond B3 organ
Don Sickler, trumpet
Lewis Nash, drums
