Joe Henderson first recorded “Recorda-Me” on his debut record as a leader, 1963’s Page One which featured trumpeter Kenny Dorham, pianist McCoy Tyner, bassist Butch Warren and drummer Pete LaRoca.
32 years later at the classic Town Hall concert that celebrated the return of the Blue Note label, Henderson performed a new version with quite a cast: trumpeter Freddie Hubbard, vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson, pianist Herbie Hancock, bassist Ron Carter, and drummer Tony Williams.
Taken faster than the original, this version features an opening Williams drum solo, some ferocious playing by Henderson, and solos by Hutcherson, Hubbard (reminding viewers just how superb a player he was) and Hancock.
