Tenor saxophonists Paul Quinichette, and trombonist Eddie Durham take part in a jam session led by Jay McShann at the Musicians' Union Hall in Kansas City in 1974 also featuring the lyrical alto saxophone of Charles McPherson.

Paul Quinichette was dubbed "Vice President" for his unparalleled ability to sound and play like Lester Young. During the early part of his career he worked with Jay McShann and Red Allen before ultimately being hired by Basie as Young's replacement.

Although he was a very expressive trombonist, Eddie Durham was best known for his role as a guitarist. As an original member of the "Blue Devils" he is remembered for his work in the bands' of both Bennie Moten and Count Basie. Durham is cited for the first recorded electric guitar solo with "Lester Young's Kansas City Five" in 1938.
