Lester Bowie’s Brass Fantasy formed in the mid-’80s. It became a vehicle for Bowie to exhibit jazz’s connection with pop music – a step away from his more experimental past. Their nonet – a party of nine musicians – also covered more traditional jazz songs and standards.
