Mal Waldron Quintet Live At The Village Vanguard (1986)

Personnel:

Woody Shaw, trumpeter
Charlie Rouse, tenor sax
Mal Waldron, piano
Reggie Workman, bass
Ed Blackwell, drum

From Wikipedia:

In the following dozen years or so he led his own bands and played for those led by Charles Mingus, Eric Dolphy, and Lucky Thompson, among others. He was Billie Holiday's accompanist for her final two years, and was house pianist for Prestige Records, appearing on dozens of albums and composing for many of them, including writing "Soul Eyes" with John Coltrane in mind. A breakdown caused by a drugs overdose in 1963 left him unable to play or remember any music; he regained his skills gradually, while composing film scores. He left the U.S. permanently in the mid-1960s, settling in Europe and touring internationally until his death in 2002.

This performance was recorded in 1986
