Antibe Jazz Festival '86
Drummer Louis Hayes was born on May 31, 1937 in Detroit, Michigan.
As a teenager, he led his own band and played with Yusef Lateef and Curtis Fuller, fellow Detroiters.
In addition to leading his own groups, Hayes has performed with Horace Silver's Quintet, the Cannonball Adderley Quintet and the Oscar Peterson Trio.
He's also recorded with John Coltrane, Freddie Hubbard, Booker Little, Tommy Flanagan, Cecil Taylor, McCoy Tyner, and countless other master musicians.
Often teaming up with bassist Sam Jones he played in the bands of both Cannonball Adderley and Oscar Peterson in the '60s.
In 1972 he organized the "Louis Hayes Sextet" a group which was ultimately downsized to a quintet, first co-led by Junior Cook, and then Woody Shaw.
Louis Hayes performs with the "McCoy Tyner All-Stars" at the 1986 Antibe Jazz Festival.
