Without skipping a beat
Trumpeter Supreme Lester Bowie coined the phrase "Great Black Music Ancient to Future" and this is the kind of thing he was talking about.
We made this to promote a cross-cultural connection between New Orleans and Manchester, UK.
Why these two cities?
It's not random.
Where did all the cotton go that was shipped out of New Orleans? To Manchester (via the docks at Liverpool)
Who put their bodies on the line in support of US abolition? The mill workers of Manchester.
Who "got" southern R & B before the rest of the US caught on? The young cats in Liverpool and Manchester.
Who turned the underground electronic scenes in Chicago and Detroit (a black artist created scene developed by the grandkids of Delta refugees) into a global dance phenomenon? Manchester, UK.
These two parts of the world are joined at the soul.
Music by A Guy Called Gerald. That's his name.
Video by Ken McCarthy, Hubie Vigreux, Julie Carruth, and the Internet. Edited by Ken McCarthy and Matthew Lipscomb. Grevel Lindop provided insight and travel help in the UK to help nail this story down.
