A classic straight-ahead jazz performance from four of today’s greats
Tenor-saxophonist Joshua Redman’s Wish Quartet in 1997 was a dream band with guitarist Pat Metheny, bassist Christian McBride and drummer Brian Blade.
“The Deserving Many” gives those four giants an opportunity to play Redman’s straight ahead piece at a rapid tempo.
This well-photographed clip is a classic with a quick assertive melody by Redman, some quietly inventive guitar by Metheny, a raging Redman solo, and a spot for Blade.
It is eight minutes very well spent.
