An exciting drum solo from Roy Haynes

Stan Getz, who was already one of jazz’s most popular musicians, made a major impact internationally during 1962-65 with his groundbreaking bossa-nova recordings, particularly the albums Jazz Samba and Getz/Gilberto.

But rather than merely replay the hits, Getz was soon stretching himself, playing creative jazz and almost running away from his unexpected pop success.

His mid-1960s group featured vibraphonist Gary Burton rather than a pianist along with bassist Steve Swallow and drummer Roy Haynes.

During a 1966 performance from London, Getz and his group perform Bob Brookmeyer’s “Jazz Hoot.”

The number is primarily a showcase for an outstanding drum solo by Roy Haynes.
