In 1990, violinist Stephane Grappelli and pianist McCoy Tyner recorded a duet album.
Grappelli had long wanted to play with Tyner, and the pianist enjoyed performing in that setting with the veteran violinist.
A year later, on Oct. 25, 1991, they performed separate sets at a concert in Warsaw, Poland; Tyner sat in with Grappelli’s trio on “How High The Moon.”
With fine support offered by guitarist Marc Fosset and bassist Jean-Philippe Viret, Grappelli and Tyner both take fine solos on the uptempo piece, with the violinist’s stop-time chorus being a highlight.
