Steve Kuhn has had a wide-ranging career that included being the original pianist with the John Coltrane Quartet (in 1960 before McCoy Tyner), working with Stan Getz, Art Farmer and Sheila Jordan, and having his own trios, playing everything from avant-garde jazz to hard bop.

On this brief clip from Feb. 7, 2011, the pianist and his trio perform a short version of Charlie Parker’s “Confirmation” and an original, separated by a Joey Baron drum solo.
