Curson leads an impressive group filled
with Americans and Swedes

Ted Curson was a major trumpeter who came to prominence with Charles Mingus in 1960, performing colorful music that straddled the boundaries between bop and free jazz for the next 40 years.

At the 1969 Molde Festival in Norway, Curson and fellow American J.C. Moses met up with three talented Swedes: altoist Christer Boustedt, pianist Lars Werner and bassist Gosta Valivaara.

The music that they perform (“Song Of The Lonely One,” “Rumba Bumba” and “The Leopard”) is the type of episodic inside/outside jazz that Curson excelled at.

This rare half-hour performance is well worth exploring.

Personnel:

Ted Curson, trumpet
Christer Boustedt, alto
Lars Werner, piano
Gosta Walivaara, bass
J.C. Moses, drums
