Thelonious Monk performs the original composition "Well You Needn't" at London's Marquee Club in 1965.
Monk wrote the tune in 1944 while working as the house pianist at Minton's Playhouse. After telling his friend and protégé Charlie Beamon that he would name the song after him, Beamon responded, "well, you needn't," thus giving the song its title.
