Bourgeois Blues
Taj Mahal
Blues for equality
Taj Mahal (piano & vocals) performs Lead Belly’s “Bourgeois Blues” in the early 1990s.
The “Bourgeois Blues” was written by Huddie Ledbetter (aka Lead Belly) as a first hand account of his experiences coping with the strictly enforced segregation laws and racial discrimination taking palace in the nations capital, Washington D. C. during the late ’30s. Lead Belly first recorded this blues about his inability to find lodging based on race for the Library Of Congress on December 26, 1938.
