Good Morning Blues
Lead Belly
Jan. 20, 1888 – Dec. 6, 1949
Recorded in New York City on June 15, 1940 featuring Huddie Leadbetter (12-string guitar & vocals).
The legendary Louisiana folk blues musician Huddie Leadbetter, better known as Lead Belly, was discovered by John Lomax in 1933 during a field recording trip to Angola Prison for the folk song archive at the Library Of Congress. Huddie possessed an expansive repertoire including work songs, ballads, turn-of-the-century pop, and the blues. He was released after his pardon song was recoded and delivered to the governor by Lomax personally. Lead Belly would aide the musicologist on further recording trips South, and moved to New York City where he became a popular entertainer and recorded extensively.
