Burnside’s Blues
R. L. Burnside
North Mississippi blues
During August 1978 R. L. Burnside (guitar & vocals) performs his blues in Independence, Mississippi filmed by Alan Lomax, Worth Long, and John Bishop.
Form the small Northern Mississippi farm community of Harmontown, Robert Lee Burnside was first inspired to learn guitar in 1948 by the John Lee Hooker single “Boogie Chillen.” Then in his early twenties, he was taught the rudiments of the blues from Mississippi Fred McDowell who lived in an adjoining county.
