Anson Funderburgh & The Rockets feat. Sam Myers

Moving blues

Anson Funderburgh (guitar) and his band “The Rockets” consisting of Sam Myers (harmonica & vocals), Matt McCabe (piano), Jim Milan (bass), and Danny Cochran (drums) perform in Austin, Texas in 1990s.

When The Rockets’ original singer and harmonica player Darrell Nulisch left the band in 1985 Anson asked Sam Myers to take his place. Myers bluesman was part of a wave of musicians who migrated to Chicago from the Mississippi delta during the early 1950s. He was left legally blind by the age of seven when he developed juvenile cataracts. He began to play the drums as a boy which he put to use in Chicago with Elmore James from 1952 until James’ death in 1963.
