Frank Frost was born in Auvergne, Arkansas in 1936 where he became involved in music at a young age playing piano for his church. Leaving home at fifteen he journeyed to St. Louis and started playing guitar. He first toured with drummer Sam Carr and Robert Nighthawk when he was eighteen followed by a number of years with Sonny Boy Williamson from whom he learned the harmonica.

Recognized among the foremost blues harp players of his generation, Frost recorded two of his most notable singles “Hey Boss Man” and “My Back Scratcher” in the early 1960s for Sun Records backed by guitarist Big Jack Johnson. Originally billed as the “Nighthawks” the trio would change their name to the “Jelly Roll Kings” in 1979.
