Memory Blues
O.V. Wright
Voice of Soul/Spirt of Blues
Memphis’ voice of soul O. V. Wright, haunted by his “Memory Blues.”
Like so many young vocalist Overton Vertis Wright began by singing in the church where he was discovered in the late 1950s by songwriter and manager Roosevelt Jamison. Though more of a soul singer Wright is generally considered a blues artist. He produced R&B chart topping hits during the ’60s including “You’re Gonna Make Me Cry” (1965), and “Eight Men, Four Women” (1967).
