Prodigal Son

Josh White

Feb. 11, 1914 – Sep. 5, 1969

Recorded in New York City on March 20, 1935 featuring Joshua White (guitar & vocals), accompanied by Walter Roland (piano).

When he was a boy Josh White left his home to lead a blind evangelical singer named John Henry Arnold. It was another blind musician with whom he made his first recording in 1927. Josh adopted the technique used by many of the blind singers fretting the strings of his guitar in both the overhand and underhand position. He became a popular recording artist renowned for his clear singing voice.
