Big Joe Williams

Back Home in Crawford

In an excerpt from the “All American Collection: The Devil’s Music” hosted by Alexis Korner nine-string guitarist Big Joe Williams performs at his birth place in the small town of Crawford, Mississippi.

Big Joe Williams’ started making a living playing music at a young age for the parties and dances of field hands. Williams developed his own type of guitar with nine-strings and was among the first delta bluesmen to use amplification. His extensive travels brought him through many towns and cities and to Europe and Japan but he returned to the Mississippi delta during his final years.
