Although violinist Stephane Grappelli will always be associated with Django Reinhardt, he had a very fertile solo career during the half-century that followed.

Grappelli was in one of his prime periods in 1979, traveling the world and playing with as many brilliant musicians as he could.

One of his happiest associations was with mandolist David Grisman and his young and exciting string quartet.

With Grisman, guitarist Mark O’Connor, Mike Marshall on second mandolin, and bassist Rob Wasserman, the violinist is heard in exuberant form on two high-energy numbers performed on Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show in 1979.
