Abbey Lincoln (1930-2010) was one of the most powerful jazz singers to emerge in the late 1950s.

Originally a glamorous supper club performer, as the wife of Max Roach, she evolved into a major jazz singer who was not shy to tackle social and racial issues in her singing and acting.

In her later years, Lincoln continued progressing, becoming an excellent songwriter and a superior interpreter of standards that she enjoyed.

“Midnight Sun,” Lionel Hampton’s finest composition, is uplifted by Abbey Lincoln’s warm singing while joined by pianist Marc Cary, bassist John Ormond, and drummer Alvester Garnett.
