Matthew Shipp started playing piano when he was six, played in both jazz and rock groups while in high school, studied with Joe Maneri and Dennis Sandole during his college years, and moved to New York in 1984.
Always an adventurous improviser, the prolific pianist worked for years with David S. Ware, has had a longtime association with Ivo Perelman, and has led more than 70 albums in his career.
For this performance of his “Root Of Things,” Shipp is joined by bassist Michael Bisio and drummer Whit Dickey, creating a thoughtful and unpredictable improvisation.
