Benny Golson has been a major tenor-saxophonist and composer since the mid-1950s and, as of 2022, was one of the few living artists who has written several jazz standards including “Killer Joe,” “Along Came Betty,” “I Remember Clifford,” “Stablemates,” “Blues March,” and “Whisper Not.”

65 years after he composed “Whisper Not,” Golson (who was 92 at the time) performs his original with pianist Emmet Cohen, bassist Russell Hall, and drummer Evan Sherman.

While Golson was not quite in his playing prime, he makes every note count during his thoughtful statement, and clearly enjoyed the inventive solos of Cohen and Hall.
