Cleo Laine always had an outstanding if not astounding voice.
She has sung jazz ever since she joined her future husband John Dankworth’s group in 1951.
While they both had independent careers for a time, they mostly worked together for many decades as Cleo Laine became one of England’s top vocalists.
Here she is in the 1980s on a concise version of “On A Clear Day,” hitting some remarkable notes during its last part.
