Milt Jackson and Gary Burton, who belong in a small group of the greatest jazz vibraphonists of all time (along with Lionel Hampton, Red Norvo, Terry Gibbs and Bobby Hutcherson) never recorded together and rarely shared the same stage.
But at Umbria Jazz in 1995, they took turns soloing and trading off on “A Night In Tunisia” while joined by a trio that included bassist Ray Brown.
Burton was clearly happy to be on stage with Jackson while the older vibraphonist was certainly impressed by Burton’s playing.
This should have happened much more often, but at least it was filmed.
