Eccentric – 1951

Eddie Condon

A hot Dixieland number

Eddie Condon, who was a rhythm guitarist who never soloed, a bandleader, and an organizer of a countless number of sessions and recording dates, opened up his club Eddie Condon’s in 1945.

Condon loved freewheeling hot jazz as can be seen during this excerpt of a film short from 1951.

After Condon chats a bit with columnist Danton Walker, he leads his house band through an uptempo version of “Eccentric.”

The group consists of Condon, cornetist Wild Bill Davison, trombonist Cutty Cutshall, the great clarinetist Edmond Hall, pianist Gene Schroeder, bassist Bob Casey, and drummer Buzzy Drootin.

Blazing music such as this could be heard on most nights from Condon’s for over three decades.
